2023: The Year of Soul-Centered Self-Care

2023: The Year of Soul-Centered Self-Care

Soul-centered self-care is quickly becoming the gold standard of self-care. And 2023 provides many opportunities to make this a reality for us, sometimes in a cruel yet kind manner.

Central to Soul Aligned Frequency, soul-centered self-care is a lifestyle, not a mere to-do list. It’s an experience you can cultivate by nourishing your soul cravings with your thoughts, words, and actions – ultimately creating a life for yourself with which you resonate.

While the concept is unique on its own terms, the journey to this point has spanned centuries as modernization increasingly solidifies the separation of soul from self.

The great unfolding is the term I’ve been using to describe this time period, inspired by my emails (get on the email list here). As a concept, the great unfolding lends itself to the deconstruction of modern ideas of self, soul, and community to cultivate consciousness and proceed in a more balanced and productive manner. While this time period extends far back into history, the last couple of years provides plenty of evidence of this shift.

Between obsessively baking banana bread and experiencing life-altering shifts collectively that trickled down into our personal lives, it’s safe to say 2019-2021 was an era in and of itself. The time we spent with ourselves becomes a focal point in between distinct pandemic memories. Being in our own energy and left to our own thoughts in isolation became a personal purgatory for many. However, it was equally responsible for birthing grave, yet productive realizations.

A jarring realization that many of us stumbled upon was the fact that we couldn’t spend time with ourselves. Partially logical in nature, since humans are social creatures, but difficult nonetheless. The constant need for external validation and input has left us distraught in our supposedly strong sense of self. As introspection snuck its way into our daily routines, many of us found ways to improve ourselves – learning new skills, replacing bad habits with better habits, working within to improve without.

The soul-searching taking place on individual and collective levels lead to investing in self-improvement, in many forms, which made us realize the beauty in simplicity.

As the pandemic brought systemic changes that threatened our way of being, doing, and living, the craving for simplicity grew. Nostalgia arrived in sobering doses, changing the way we approached the uncertainty ahead of us. The promise of simplicity and the joy it brings sourced hope amongst a desperate time. Bonding over getting half ready to attend Zoom calls and allotting more time doing things of genuine interest with people who we appreciate created a new standard.

This standard of simplicity satisfies both the soul and the demands of the human experience, producing the functional definition of soul-centered self-care. While there still is resistance in the masses towards this way of living, it lends way to change our thinking. Life is meant to be easy. But, we’ve overcomplicated things in an attempt to breed simplicity. While you can blame the systems that came well before you and I were born, keep in mind that that too was created by humans. Everything is a construct of sorts and once you identify with knowing, you can begin to construct your reality.

So while we awaken to the possibility that surrounds us, we allow our imagination to come back to life. For those of you that are familiar with the Law of Attraction, then you’ll know that this is a key component of creating our reality – an active imagination. Filling the gaps of logic with creativity, allowing life to be lived more fully.

Combining the power of nostalgia and imagination, we reconnect with our pleasure in simplicity throughout 2023, a universal year 7.

Using numerology, 2023 is a number seven year (2 + 2 + 3 = 7). This number is universal; on top of your personal numerology, the seven vibration comes into play for all of us. Collectively, number 7 anchors the vibration of spirituality. It holds the vibration of accessing your inner mystic, and becoming the seer your soul aligns with best. Number 7 dealings hold a frequency of higher realms. So exploring higher possibility, especially related to what is unseen, is coming to the forefront this year.

The seeds for the concept of soul-centered self-care were planted in 2020. 2020 is a universal 4 year that allowed us to reframe our understanding of self. Building a foundation within ourselves was the form of self-care that demanded attention. Followed by a 5 year, 2021 brought us opportunities to reflect on how we wanted to approach the future. Further, it allowed us to experiment with the individual elements of change. 2022, a year 6, brought up the heavy past that prior year shifts carried. This uprooting allowed us to dive deeper into our understanding of self and clear ancestral trauma.

The past three years set the stage for the tailored, intuitive understanding of year 7 – 2023. Besides being a highly spiritual number, a year 7 begs us to interact with spirituality as it pertains to our authentic selves. Understanding our spiritual origins will help us further unravel trauma and blocks, as we find new ways to connect with others and the world around us. This number, also has connections to the subconscious mind – which is SAF’s basis for soul-centered self-care.

From our time in the womb through age 7, our subconscious mind forms. Our subconscious mind makes up over 90% of our brain. The approximate remainder of 10% makes up our conscious mind. Being the major part of our brain, the subconscious mind dictates the patterns that colour our life. It is a focal point within spirituality as it connects us to our inner child, past lives, and of course, higher realms – parallel to the numerologically dictated theme of 2023. In unravelling our personal mysteries and patterns through the subconscious mind, we are able to better tend to ourselves. Here, we form our own methods and measures of soul-centered self-care.

Expanding on this energy, in astrology, Saturn and Uranus shift operate on a 7-year cycle. Saturn is the planet of tough love that brings focus to self and our patterns. Uranus, on the other hand, is the planet that provides rebellion in favour eccentricity. Major change comes with the movement of these planets. 2023 in specific brings Saturn’s movement into Pisces from Aquarius, expanding the possibility of change and the creation of flexible, responsive systems. At an individual level, this fundamental change holds us accountable in our journey of returning home to self, and our trajectory forward.

The parallels with the vibration of seven are endless. Every 7 years, the cells in our body are completely renewed. There’s 7 planets beyond Earth, 7 main chakras, 7 virtues, 7 sins, 7 weekdays, 7 colours in the rainbow… And I just listed 7 additional parallels ;). The vibration of number 7 is strongly threaded throughout the world and our existence. With it being a 7 year, it’s fair to say that number 7 is a number of interconnectedness. Where above and below meet to create consciousness, which is seeded in the subconscious mind, through tending to our soul.

Within this 7-year, our subconscious mind becomes more accessible. Connecting us to higher realms, but also helping us unravel the work that needs to be done in order to lead our lives more authentically.

Our nature as humans is to evolve. We are natural problem solvers, which makes our existence investigative. When we apply ourselves productively, we unveil more of our authentic nature. A lot of which lives in the idea that soul is not separate from self. A shared understanding within the spiritual space is that we are spirits having a human experience.

The distinction between our true essence and our borrowed essence is found within navigating the terrain of the subconscious mind. Through reflection and conscious redirection, we break the karmic cycles that keep us in survival mode. As we change our perception, raise our vibration, and mold our individual definitions of soul-centered self-care, we open ourselves to a new way of being that inherently has a level of positive permanence. We can safely venture into remembering our true origins, reclaiming our soul-self, and rising in our authenticity – the core pillars of SAF’s definition of soul-centered self-care.

Reclaiming our most authentic selves allows us to actively re-invent ourselves and the world around us – ushering us into a new paradigm.

Evolving through soul-centered self-care allows us to deepen our individual consciousness. This has a ripple effect, as our interactions with others seed more light in what would be rather mundane tasks. The soul will find sturdiness in self, allowing new patterns to integrate within.

Characteristic of 7 year, this is all fully possible. Granted, that work will not be done and dusted overnight, but it is the year of initiating a higher way of living – commonly termed as the New Paradigm. However, the New Paradigm is not a destination. It is birthed through each one of us and our dedication to self, in a reasoned way.

When we care for ourselves in a way that allows our inner knowing to come forth, we are actively seeding a new way of living, for ourselves and for our lineage. This is why soul-centered self-care is important and demands attention – it is the receptive of the bigger picture we are so often seeking to understand.
